WHL Sets New Attendance Record
Calgary – The Western Hockey League announced today that a new regular season attendance record has been established with over 2.7 million fans attending WHL games.
During the 2001-2002 WHL regular season, 2,780,899 fans, an average of 4,265 spectators per game, have attended a WHL regular season game in one of the 19 WHL arenas. There are still 32 regular season games remaining this season. The previous record was set last season with an attendance totaling 2,728,169. This is the seventh consecutive season that the WHL’s attendance figure has topped the 2.5 million fans mark.
Western Hockey League Commissioner Ron Robison stated; “We are delighted to once again set a new WHL record for regular season attendance. The overwhelming response to our expansion team in Vancouver combined with the loyal fan support we receive in all of our markets resulted in our clubs surpassing last year’s record.”
