Wheat Kings bolster blue paint with addition of Garrett from Silvertips
The Brandon Wheat Kings added valuable depth at the goaltending position Friday as the WHL’s holiday roster freeze lifted, acquiring 19-year-old netminder Alex Garrett from the Everett Silvertips in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft.
The 6-foot-1, 186-pound Garrett has been solid in 13 appearances with the Silvertips this season, going 9-1-1-1 with a 2.84 goals-against average, .895 save percentage, and one shutout. Garrett’s 2.84 GAA ranks third in the WHL among all qualified goaltenders.
“We appreciate Alex’s contributions to the Silvertips over the past few months,” said Mike Fraser, General Manager of the Silvertips. “We wish him all the best with Brandon.”
A product of Saskatoon, Sask., Garrett will join the Wheat Kings with veteran Philadelphia Flyers prospect Carson Bjarnason away representing Canada at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa.
Garrett’s lone shutout of the season came November 20 when he turned aside all 33 shots sent his way in a 4-0 home victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes. The perfect 33-save effort marked the first of three consecutive games in which Garrett made 30 saves or more.
Originally selected by the Calgary Hitmen in the seventh round (144th overall) of the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft, Garrett was traded from the Hitmen to the Silvertips on September 24.
In 33 career WHL regular season appearances, Garrett is 16-9-3-1 with a 3.38 GAA, .887 SV% and two shutouts.
Alex Garrett and the Wheat Kings return to action Friday, December 27 (7 p.m. CT), when they host the Regina Pats at Westoba Place.
