Wheat Kings acquire Nell from Rebels
Meyer Nell is on his way back to the Western Hockey League.
The 19-year-old product of Boissevain, Man., hasn’t played in the WHL since the 2014-15 season in which he notched 17 points (8G-9A) with the Red Deer Rebels, but Tuesday morning the Rebels traded his rights to the Brandon Wheat Kings in exchange for a conditional 10th round pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft.
According to a release from the Wheat Kings, Nell is expected to join the club prior to the Christmas break.
Over 121 career WHL regular season games, the 6-foot, 190-pound left winger has collected 24 points (9G-15A).
Since last playing for the Rebels in 2014-15, Nell has toiled with the Boissevain Border Kings of the Tiger Hills Senior Hockey League. He is also enrolled at the University of Manitoba.
Nell was originally a fifth round pick (96th) of the Rebels at the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.
