Warriors goaltender Sawchenko uses WHL Scholarship, commits to University of Alberta
Goaltender Zach Sawchenko of the Moose Jaw Warriors has committed to attend the University of Alberta for the 2017-2018 season, where he will make use of the benefits acquired through the WHL Scholarship.
Sawchenko was selected by the Warriors in the second round (33rd) at the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft. In 2016-2017 he posted a record of 30-14-6-1 with a 2.79 GAA, .917 SV% and three shutouts, was named an Eastern Conference First Team All-Star and the back-to-back Eastern Conference Goaltender of the Year.
In four seasons with the Warriors, Sawchenko appeared in 177 games and finished with a record of 88-65-12-4 with a 3.11 GAA, .908 SV%, and nine shutouts. He ranks second in Warriors franchise history in regular season games played, wins, minutes played, and shutouts. He also ranks second all-time in playoff games played and finishes tied for first with two shutouts.
