Twelve Western Hockey League alumni lift Calder Cup as members of the Abbotsford Canucks
Charlotte, N.C.- The Abbotsford Canucks are flying home with some extra hardware in tow.
Twelve WHL alumni helped the Vancouver Canucks’ farm team capture the Calder Cup in Game 6 of the AHL finals on Monday night.
2022 WHL points leader Arshdeep Bains added two assists as the Canucks erased a 2-0 deficit with three straight goals against the Charlotte Checkers for a 3-2 final.
This marks the first-ever Calder Cup championship by a Vancouver Canucks affiliate.
Abbotsford is also the first Canadian AHL squad to win the title since the Toronto Marlies in 2017-18.
Bains, who made his NHL debut in 2023-24, finished second in the playoff scoring race with 24 points (7G-17A) in 24 games.
The win also marks a unique milestone for the Woo family, with defenceman and 2022 WHL East Division Second Team All-Star Jett lifting the Calder Cup just weeks after younger brother Jonas hoisted the Ed Chynoweth Cup with the Medicine Hat Tigers.
