Tigers sign Kachkowski to WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement
Medicine Hat, Alta.- Promising defenceman Jack Kachkowski has signed a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with the Medicine Hat Tigers.
The 16-year-old was drafted by the Tigers in the fifth round, 89th overall at the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to play at the highest level,” Kachkowski said. “The WHL is the highest I can play at the moment, at the end of the day I decided that I wanted to become a Medicine Hat Tiger. It’s going to be unreal to play at Rogers Place for my first game and I can’t wait to get going.”
Kachkowski had previously committed to Nebraska-Omaha in the NCAA and started the 2023-24 campaign with the AJHL’s Brooks Bandits, where he scored one goal and two assists in 12 games.
The St. Alberta, Alta. blueliner played last season with his hometown St. Albert U18AAA Raiders, where he potted five goals and 13 assists in 33 games, plus another seven helpers in 10 playoff matches.
He also suited up for Team Alberta at the 2023 Canada Winter Games alongside his now-Medicine Hat teammates Hayden Harsanyi, Kadon McCann and Matt Paranych, placing fifth.
“Jack is a high-end player and we wanted to sign him out of training camp,” Tigers Head Coach Willie Desjardins said. “We’ve got a really good group of young players and Jack is a perfect fit.”
Kachkowski will make his WHL debut on December 9 as the Tigers travel north to face the Edmonton Oil Kings.
