This Week in WHL History:
- Trailing 3-0 in the Memorial Cup Final versus the Quebec Remparts, Regina Pats forward Dennis Sobchuk carried the team on his back with a hat trick performance as the Pats came back to win the game 7-4 on May 12, 1974; the Pats were the first team in WHL history to be crowned Memorial Cup Champions and it was the last time the Memorial Cup was held in Alberta
- Ty Rattie netted a hat trick, including two short-handed goals, as the Portland Winterhawks defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings in six games to capture their third WHL Championship on May 12, 2013; Rattie earned the 2013 WHL Playoff MVP award as he finished his WHL career with a record 50 playoff goals
- On May 13, 1989, Tim Tisdale was the hero in overtime as the Swift Current Broncos defeated the Saskatoon Blades 4-3 to win the Memorial Cup

- The Lethbridge Hurricanes mounted one of the greatest comebacks in Memorial Cup history as Lethbridge scored six unanswered goals to erase a 6-1 deficit against the Hull Olympiques; Mike Josephson’s winner in overtime completed the 7-6 comeback victory on May 13, 1997

- On May 14, 2007, the Medicine Hat Tigers battled the Vancouver Giants in one of the most memorable game sevens in WHL playoff history as a thick layer of fog in the old Medicine Hat Arena delayed the game; Brennan Bosch potted the winner in double overtime as the Tigers claimed their fifth League title

- Zac Boyer scored the winner with only 14.6 seconds left in the game to lift the Kamloops Blazers to a 5-4 triumph over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds to capture the first Memorial Cup in Blazers’ history on May 17, 1992; it was Boyer’s third game winning goal of the tournament
