Silvertips’ Carter Hart named WHL Goaltender of the Week
Calgary, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that Everett Silvertips goaltender Carter Hart has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week and the league nominee for Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending January 15, 2017.
An 18-year-old product of Sherwood Park, AB, Hart went 1-0-1-0 this past week, with a 1.92 goals-against average, .933 save percentage and one shutout. Returning to the Silvertips following a silver-medal effort with Canada at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship, Hart backstopped Everett to a 4-0 shutout win at Kamloops on Friday, January 13, being named first star for his 22-save performance. Back home on Saturday, January 14, Hart was once again named first star as he made 34 saves in a 4-3 overtime loss versus Seattle.
Hart was previously recognized as the Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month for November after going 6-2-1-0 with a 1.11 GAA, .959 SV% and three shutouts. As a result of his outstanding efforts, the reigning CHL Goaltender of the Year was also named WHL Goaltender of the Week on two occasions to close November – for the week ending November 20 and the week ending November 27. For the week ending November 27, Hart was also named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week as the top netminder in the Canadian Hockey League.
Through 26 appearances this season, Hart is 17-3-5-0, helping the Silvertips jump ahead of the U.S. Division pack. His 1.85 GAA and five shutouts both rank first in the WHL and his .928 SV% is good enough for second.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound goaltender was a second round pick (48th) of the Philadelphia Flyers at the 2016 NHL Draft. In his third season with the Everett Silvertips, Hart has amassed a career record of 70-32-8-7, with a 2.14 GAA, .919 SV% and 15 shutouts.
Hart was originally an eighth round pick (158th) of the Everett Silvertips at the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.
