SERIES PREVIEW: Portland (2) vs. Everett (3)
The 2024 WHL Playoffs presented by Nutrien continue with Second-Round matchups beginning on Friday, April 12. WHL.ca is previewing each series ahead of puck drop, finishing with a look at the Portland Winterhawks and Everett Silvertips.
One year after Portland knocked Everett out of the playoffs in Round One, the Silvertips are looking for revenge.
The U.S. Division powerhouses will go toe-to-toe in their Western Conference Semifinal series starting on Friday, April 12.
Portland has been at rest since April 4, when the Winterhawks swept Victoria.
After dropping Game 1 to the Giants, Everett clawed back with four straight wins to make it to the Second Round for the first time since 2019.
The Winterhawks owned a 6-2-0-0 record against the Silvertips in the 2023-24 regular season, though one victory came in the shootout and Everett was one of only two teams to shut out Portland this season.
Portland was the top-scoring team of the regular season with 330 goals (4.85/game) while Everett ranked fourth with 296 (4.35/game).
The teams were also neck-and-neck in goals against, with Portland sitting with the third-fewest with 204 and Everett again in fourth with 208.
Everett has made the playoffs every year since its inception in 2003 and has faced Portland seven times in the postseason- the Winterhawks own a 4-3 playoff record against the Silvertips.
Game 1 is set for Friday, April 12 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.
