Saskatoon Blades clinch spot in 2019 WHL Playoffs
The Saskatoon Blades have secured their spot in the 2019 Western Hockey League Playoffs.
By virtue of a 4-3 shootout win against the Kootenay ICE and a 7-1 loss by the Brandon Wheat Kings to the Prince Albert Raiders, the Blades can finish no worse than third in the East Division.
With a 38-14-8-0 record through 60 games, the Blades have 84 points. The Wheat Kings, who sit fourth in the East Division, have accumulated 65 points through 59 games and can achieve a maximum of 83 points by the end of the 2018-19 WHL Regular Season.
Sitting in second place in the East Division, the Blades still have work to do in their final eight games to secure second place. They lead the Moose Jaw Warriors by 10 points with the Warriors having 11 games left in their regular season schedule.
With Saturday’s clinching, the Blades are the fifth team to secure their spot in the 2019 WHL Playoffs, following the Prince Albert Raiders, Everett Silvertips, Vancouver Giants, and Portland Winterhawks.
The Blades are back in action Tuesday, February 26 (7:00 p.m. CT) at home to the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
