Royals forward Reschny named WHL Rookie of the Month for November
Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today Victoria Royals forward Cole Reschny has been named WHL Rookie of the Month for November.
Reschny, 16, recorded 12 points (7G-5A) in only eight games during the month of November. With 26 points (11G-15A) in 22 contests this season, the product of Macklin, Sask., ranks third among all WHL rookies in scoring.
The 5-foot-9, 161-pound centre recorded points in 11 of 12 games during the month of November, including four multipoint efforts.
Reschny’s month of November began by representing Canada Red at the 2023 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Prince Edward Island. In eight games from Thursday, November 2 through Saturday, November 11, Reschny recorded eight points (3G-5A) to tie atop the scoring charts for Canada Red.
Upon returning to the WHL from the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, Reschny picked up on a nine-game point-scoring streak that began back on Monday, October 9 and stretched it to 14 games, all the way through Friday, November 24.
Reschny wrapped up the month by scoring four goals in the final games, including his first-career WHL hat trick in a 6-1 win over Kamloops on Tuesday, November 28.
Heading into December, Reschny is tied for the scoring lead among all Victoria Royals skaters. His 26 points are tied with Tanner Scott, though Reschny has skated in five fewer games than the veteran forward.
Since Saturday, September 30, Reschny has been held off the scoresheet on a mere two occasions, having skated in 19 contests.
Reschny is eligible for the 2025 NHL Draft.
Originally selected by the Royals in the first round (third overall) of the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft, Reschny made his WHL debut during the 2022-23 season and scored his first-career WHL goal on Saturday, November 19, 2022 in a 5-2 loss to the Prince George Cougars.
Through 26 career WHL Regular Season games, the Saskatchewan product is scoring at a point-per-game pace, having collected 27 points (12G-15A).
Heading into December, the Victoria Royals are second in the WHL’s B.C. Division with a record of 14-11-0-2.
Cole Reschny and the Victoria Royals return to action Friday, December 1 (7 p.m. PT) when they visit the Kamloops Blazers at the Sandman Centre.
