Red Deer Rebels Shane Bendera Sets New WHL Record
RED DEER, AB – Red Deer Rebels Goaltender Shane Bendera has set a new Western Hockey League record for most shutouts in one playoff season with four. Bendera blanked the Swift Current Broncos 4-0 last night as the Rebels eliminated the Broncos four games to two in the Eastern Conference Final.
Bendera surpasses previous record holders Scott Myers (Prince George Cougars, 2000 – 13 games) and Ed Humphreys (Saskatoon Blades, 1973 – 16 games) who each had three shutouts in their respective playoffs.
The Red Deer Rebels set a Canadian Hockey League regular season record with 11 shutouts during the 2000-2001 season. Shane Bendera set a franchise record over the 2000-2001 regular season with 5 shutouts.
