Oilers sign WHL alumnus Connor Ungar to entry-level deal
Edmonton, Alta.- The Edmonton Oilers have inked former WHL netminder Connor Ungar to a two-year, entry-level contract.
The 22-year-old Calgarian just finished his rookie season at Brock University, where he put up a 20-6-0 record to go along with a 2.15 goals-against average and .932 save percentage.
Ungar also won the Clare Drake Trophy for Rookie of the Year after backstopping the Badgers to the team’s first University Cup tournament appearance with a program-record 20 regular-season wins.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound goaltender played five seasons in the WHL with Brandon (6-4-1), Red Deer (21-9-1) and Moose Jaw (26-7-0).
He closed out his major junior career with a 53-20-2-0 record in 87 games played, a 2.57 goals-against average, a .917 save percentage and three shutouts.
Ungar will now report to Edmonton’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors.
Under AHL rules, a player is eligible to join an AHL club once their college or junior season has finished.
The Condors (32-21-2-2) sit fifth in the AHL’s Pacific Division with 15 games remaining.
