Novak signs WHL Standard Player Agreement with Rockets
The Kelowna Rockets have signed 2002-born forward Pavel Novak to a Western Hockey League Standard Player Agreement, Rockets president and general manager Bruce Hamilton announced today.
The Rockets selected Novak with the 13th overall pick at the 2019 CHL Import Draft on June 27.
“We’re very excited to have Pavel sign with us,” Hamilton said. “He had an excellent Hlinka Gretzky Cup. He’s 17 years old, so he is heading into his draft year. I think that he is going to fit into our top nine, we’re excited for him to arrive here in Kelowna.”
The Tabor, Czech Republic product played in 31 games with Motor Ceske Budejovice U19 during the 2018-19 season, posting 45 points (29G-16A). He also dressed for 20 games with Budejovice in the Czech2 league, collecting three assists.
Novak suited up for the Czech Republic at the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup earlier this month in Breclav, Czech Republic, and Piestany, Slovakia. He had three goals in two exhibition games against the Swiss U-18 team heading into the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. During the tournament, he had 3 points (2G-1A) including the overtime winner against the United States in their final game to secure a fifth-place finish.
He is expected to join the Rockets later this week.
