#MMC100 Trophy Tour Stop 2: Calgary, Alberta
The Canadian Hockey League’s 100th Mastercard Memorial Cup celebrations continued this past week in Calgary, Alberta, the second stop on a season long tour visiting 17 CHL communities in eight different provinces.
The Western Hockey League’s Hitmen were tour hosts on the second leg that started with players and management bringing the Memorial Cup to Calgary’s Royal Canadian Legion Branch 264 for a visit with veterans and some of junior hockey’s most passionate fans.
The weekend brought the CHL’s second Saturday Showcase national broadcast of the season on Sportsnet with the Hitmen playing host to the Red Deer Rebels. The game included a pre-game ceremony with the Memorial Cup escorted to centre ice by Staff Sergeant Jim Shaw and Constable Jeff VanCaeyzeele. The historic trophy was later displayed in the Saddledome concourse for fans.
