LUPUL NAMED HUSKY WHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Calgary – The Husky Western Hockey League Player of the Week is forward Joffrey Lupul of the Medicine Hat Tigers. Lupul earned player of the week honours by recording five goals and nine points in two games, including a power-play goal, a short-handed goal and a game-winning goal.
On Tuesday, March 5th, Lupul scored four goals and added two assists in a 7-4 win against the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes.
On Saturday, March 9th, Lupul recorded a goal and added two assists in a 7-6 over-time loss to the visiting Swift Current Broncos.
Lupul, an 18-year-old from Edmonton, Alberta, is the only current player to have 50 goals and is just one point back of Nathan Barrett of the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the WHL scoring race. He is eligible for the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Honourable mention goes to Derek Krestanovich of the Moose Jaw Warriors and Tyler Metcalfe of the Seattle Thunderbirds.
