Korchinski signs WHL Standard Players Agreement with Seattle Thunderbirds
Kent, Wash. — Seattle Thunderbirds General Manager Bil La Forge announced that defenceman Kevin Korchinski has signed a Western Hockey League Standard Players Agreement with the team.
Korchinski was selected 10th overall by Seattle at the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft on May 2, in Red Deer, Alta.
“We feel Kevin has the potential to be a top pairing defenceman,” said La Forge. “We love the way he skates and handles the puck. Kevin has the potential to support the excellent forwards we have in our system. He is another building block in place for the future of the T-Birds.”
Korchinski, listed at 5-foot-7 and 131-pounds, is from Saskatoon, Sask. In 31 games with the Saskatoon Generals of the Saskatchewan Bantam AA League (SBAAL), the defenceman collected 47 points (10G-37A). He also recorded 10 points (5G-5A) in his team’s five playoff games.
“I’m very thankful and happy to be part of the organization,” said Korchinski. “This is just the start as I have to keep training and putting in the work to be ready to play at the WHL level.
“My parents and I ran through all the options for my hockey development and we felt that the Thunderbirds were my best option,” continued Korchinski. “I have heard nothing but great things about the organization, fans, coaches and City of Kent.”
