ICE acquire Ginnell from Winterhawks

The Kootenay ICE made their second move of the day Wednesday, acquiring 2000-born forward Brad Ginnell from the Portland Winterhawks.

In exchange, the Winterhawks received a second round draft pick in the 2018 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft and a third round selection in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft.

Ginnell, a 6-foot-1, 171-pound product of Calgary, Alta., had provided depth scoring for an offensively-laden Winterhawks club that sits one point out of the U.S. Division lead entering play on Wednesday, December 27.

In 25 games this season, Ginnell had tallied 11 points (5G-6A). Originally drafted by the Winterhawks in the fifth round, 106th overall, of the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft, Ginnell has 21 points (11G-10A), including three power play goals and two game-winners in 76 career WHL games.

He appeared in eight playoff games with the Winterhawks last year, scoring three points (2G-1A) and adding six penalty minutes.
