Graduating Silvertips forward MacKenzie commits to Western Michigan University
Everett, Wash.- Everett Silvertips forward and alternate captain Tyler MacKenzie has announced his commitment to Western Michigan University for the 2025-26 season.
The 20-year-old from Red Deer, Alta. has completed his WHL eligibility after a five-season career with the Silvertips and Medicine Hat Tigers.
“I’m honored to commit to Western Michigan,” MacKenzie said. “I want to thank everyone who has helped me along the way become a better player and a better person.
It was a blessing to be here [in Everett]. It’s something I can look back on for a long time.”
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound centreman is coming off a breakout year that saw him score 33 goals and 45 assists for 78 points and a +49 rating as the Silvertips clinched the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy as the WHL’s top regular season team for 2024-25.
MacKenzie tied for fifth among all WHL skaters in game-winning goals (8), sixth in shorthanded goals (3), while finishing third in plus/minus and 10th in faceoff wins (680).
He added another seven points (2G-5A) in nine playoff matches.
Originally selected by the Medicine Hat Tigers in the sixth round of the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft, MacKenzie suited up for four seasons with the Tabbies, serving as the team’s Captain for 2023-24.
He graduates from the WHL with 72 goals and 121 assists or 193 points in 264 regular-season games.
