Everett Silvertips move into top three in Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings
Toronto, Ont. – The Canadian Hockey League today announced the week 10 edition of the Kia CHL Top-10 Rankings for the 2019-20 season. The weekly rankings of the CHL’s Top-10 teams are selected by a panel of National Hockey League scouts.
Rising into the third spot this week were the Western Hockey League’s Everett Silvertips. The Western Conference and U.S. Division leaders earned three points from a pair of home games, dropping a 5-4 result in overtime to the Winnipeg ICE before rebounding with a 2-0 shutout of the Spokane Chiefs. The clean sheet for Dustin Wolf (Calgary Flames) was his third of the season and the 14th of his 96-game WHL regular season career. This season, the Tustin, Calif. product owns an 11-4-0-0 record, 1.99 goals-against average, 0.939 save percentage, and the three aforementioned shutouts in 15 games. Up next for Wolf and the Silvertips is hosting duties against the Saskatoon Blades on Friday, November 22 (7:35 p.m. PT).
Holding steady in fifth place were the Prince Albert Raiders, who continue to lead the WHL’s East Division with a 14-4-3-1 record through 22 games. The Raiders played extra hockey in both their weekend contests, dropping a 4-3 result in the shootout to the Regina Pats before topping the Calgary Hitmen 5-4 in overtime. Since the start of November, forwards Aliaksei Protas (Washington Capitals), Brayden Watts, Spencer Moe, and 2020 NHL Draft prospect Ozzy Wiesblatt all rank within the top 10 of WHL scoring. Starting Wednesday, November 20 (7:00 p.m. MT) against the Red Deer Rebels, the Raiders begin a three-game road trip through Alberta.
The Edmonton Oil Kings occupy the eighth spot in this week’s edition of the Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings. Still in possession of the league’s best record, the Eastern Conference and Central Division leaders went through a three-game slide before earning a 3-2 win against the Prince George Cougars Tuesday. Through 12 games, the Oil Kings have the league’s best road record at 7-1-3-1 and will continue their B.C. Division road trip on Friday, November 22 (7:05 p.m. PT) against the Victoria Royals.
Earning an honourable mention this week were the Portland Winterhawks. They picked up four points from their three games over the weekend, losing once each in overtime and a shootout before earning a 4-1 win over the Winnipeg ICE Sunday. The Winterhawks have the best winning percentage in the WHL on home ice, sporting a 0.833 winning percentage off a 7-1-1-0 record through nine games. They’ll get a chance to improve that figure when they welcome the Vancouver Giants to the Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday, November 20 (7:00 p.m. PT).
