Chiefs, Pats swap 2004-born defencemen
The Spokane Chiefs have added mobility on the blueline thanks to the acquisition of 2004-born defenceman Layton Feist from the Regina Pats.
The Chiefs and Pats announced the trade Thursday afternoon, with 2004-born defenceman Jaren Brinson headed to Regina, along with a third-round pick in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft and a second-round pick in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft.
Feist, a former first-round pick (17th overall) of the Pats, has tallied five points (2G-3A) in eight games so far this season. The 5-foot-11, 169-pound native of Dawson Creek, B.C., has skated in 164 career WHL Regular Season games, recording 59 points (17G-42A). Feist’s career campaign came in 2021-22 when he secured 28 points (6G-22A) in 64 contests.
Brinson, a former second-round pick (36th overall) of the Prince George Cougars, has appeared in six games with the Chiefs this season. The 6-foot-2, 178-pound product of Airdrie, Alta., split the 2022-23 season between the Winnipeg ICE and Chiefs, dressing in 68 contests and registering 10 points (3G-7A). Over 146 career WHL Regular Season outings, Brinson has 19 points (5G-14A) to his credit.
The Regina Pats return to action Friday, October 13 at 7 p.m. MT when they welcome the Red Deer Rebels to the Brandt Centre.
The Spokane Chiefs are set to hit the ice Saturday, October 14 at 6:05 p.m. PT when they host the Brandon Wheat Kings at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.
