Carlsberg WHL Alumni Spotlight: Former Silvertips netminder Dustin Wolf secures the bag with Calgary
Calgary, Alta. – We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again – wherever Dustin Wolf goes, success follows.
So, when the opportunity presented itself, the Calgary Flames made the easy decision to go ‘all-in’ on the budding netminder.
On September 9, 2025 – less than one month before puck drop on the 2025-26 NHL Season – the Flames inked the 24-year-old talent to a seven-year deal worth $52.5 million. The contract, which begins ahead of the 2026-27 season, makes him the highest paid goaltender in Flames franchise history. Wolf surpasses the likes of both Jacob Markstrom and Mikka Kiprusoff, who signed contracts worth $36 million and $35 million with the Flames, respectively.

The former Everett Silvertips netminder has travelled a long way before he secured ‘the bag’ with the Flames.
Prior to becoming Calgary’s star netminder, Wolf was seen patrolling the crease for Everett. In parts of four seasons with the Silvertips, the goaltender’s presence left an impression like no other.
He boasts a record of 106-34-4-2 in 149 career starts with the Tips, and exited the League with an impressive goals against average of 1.84 and save percentage of .935. Wolf also graduated the WHL as a two-time recipient of the Del Wilson Memorial Trophy as the WHL’s Goaltender of the Year.
Wolf went on to be selected by the Flames as a seventh-round flyer at the 2019 NHL Draft.
And, while proud to have been drafted by the Flames, his late-draft selection continues to be fuel for his dedication to excel at the NHL level.
“I’ve always used size and the draft pick selection and all that stuff as motivating factors,” Wolf admitted to local media in early September.
He also credits parts of his success to the Flames organization by putting faith in him at such a young age.
“They took another swing at giving me a chance to play a lot of hockey last year, and every time I step on that ice I want to prove them right.”

While Wolf now boasts a hefty price tag for the Club, the results have already justified the spending.
After making 17 appearances as an affiliate for the Flames during the 2023-24 season, Wolf returned for his rookie season with one goal in mind – earning the starting netminder gig. However, Wolf cashed in on more than just a full-time spot in the Flames’ crease. He also recorded one of the most prolific rookie seasons the NHL has ever witnessed.
In 53 games as the Flames’ starter, the then 23-year-old posted a record of 29-16-8 and nearly carried the Flames to a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in four seasons.
The product of Gilroy, Calif., also bragged a season-long goals against average of 2.64 and a save percentage of .910. His win and save percentage statline placed him in the top 20 of NHL goaltenders who started in 20 or more games last season.
Wolf was also a focal point in a highly-contested race to the Calder Memorial Trophy, awarded to the NHL’s Rookie of the Year. He finished as the Trophy’s runner-up, earning 15 first-place votes and 663 points behind Montreal’s Lane Hutson.

It was also a performance that has Calgary’s coaching staff salivating for more.
“I think [the signing is] great news for Dustin and his family, and I think it’s — selfishly for me — even better for our organization,” shared Flames head coach Ryan Huska.
“We all know the type of goaltender he is, and I think we’re just going to see him get better and better for us along the way.”Having set the bar high in his first campaign with Cowtown, the WHL alumnus is ready for an even bigger sophomore season.
Wolf and the Flames kickstart their regular season campaign on October 8, when they visit their longtime rivals, the Edmonton Oilers.
