Boston Bruins prospect Dyck named Giuseppe WHL Goaltender of the Week
Calgary, Alta. – Swift Current Broncos netminder Reid Dyck has been named Giuseppe WHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending March 31, 2024, the Western Hockey League announced Monday.
This marks the third time Dyck has earned the award this season, in addition to being named WHL Goaltender of the Month for February.
The Boston Bruins prospect went 2-0-0-0 in his WHL playoff debut with a 1.50 goals-against average, a .954 save percentage and one shutout.
Swift Current made its highly anticipated return to the WHL Playoffs for the first time since winning the Ed Chynoweth Cup in 2018 on Friday, March 29. Dyck was peppered with dozens of difficult shots, including a spectacular side-to-side save on Will Sharpe. Dyck denied four Lethbridge powerplays and warded off a whopping 19 shots in the final frame- with a trio of sensational stops at 6-on-5- to preserve a 33-save shutout. He was named first star of the games for his efforts.
The Hurricanes came out with a vengeance the following night for Game 2. Leo Braillard would open the scoring, but Dyck turned in another solid effort with 29-32 stops to snag a 4-3 win in front of nearly 3,000 fans at the InnovationPlex in Swift Current.
Dyck finished the regular season with a 25-7-2-0 record, a 2.70 goals-against average, a .911 save percentage and two shutouts.
The Winkler, M.B. product was selected by the Boston Bruins in the sixth round, 183rd overall, of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
The Broncos will try to stampede to a commanding 3-0 series lead as the battle moves west to Lethbridge. Game 3 is set for 7:00 p.m. MST on April 2 at the Enmax Centre.
