Blazers winger Shtrom announces commitment to University of Alaska Anchorage
Kamloops Blazers veteran Oren Shtrom has announced his commitment to the University of Alaska Anchorage.
The 20-year-old is expected to join the Seawolves for the 2025-26 season as he plays out his final year of WHL eligibility.
Shtrom has been a key part of Kamloops’ late-season push for the 2025 WHL Playoffs presented by Nutrien.
The Gilbert, Ariz. product has 14 goals (including a pair of game-winners) and 23 assists for 37 points in 56 games.
One of his biggest performances of the season came in a two-goal, one-assist effort in a 5-2 win over his former club, the Prince George Cougars, on January 25.

Shtrom was originally drafted by Medicine Hat in the third round of the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft.
Since then, the 5-foot-10, 185-pound winger has suited up for more than 200 games with the Tigers, Everett Silvertips, Prince George Cougars and the Blazers.
He’s amassed 43 goals and 65 assists for 108 career regular-season points, in addition to three goals and five assists in 15 playoff tilts with the Cougars in the 2024 WHL Playoffs.
Shtrom is also on a three-game point streak that’s seen him tally four assists.
Kamloops (22-33-4-1) heads south of the border to visit the Portland Winterhawks (31-24-3-1) on Wednesday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. PST.
