Ams’ Rasmussen Helps Canada to 5th Place Finish at Hlinka Memorial

Team Canada’s run of eight consecutive gold medals at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup came to an end on Friday after the Canadians downed Team Finland 4-3 to finish in fifth place.

Of the six WHLers to crack Team Canada, Tri-City Americans forward Michael Rasmussen led the way with four points (1g-3a) in four games, including the game-winning goal against Finland on Friday.

The 6’6″ Surrey, BC native is entering his second WHL season after putting up 43 points (18g-25a) in his 63-game rookie campaign.

Prince Albert Raiders goaltender Ian Scott appeared in one game in the tournament, stopping 23 of 25 shots. Former first overall WHL Bantam Draft pick, and Brandon Wheat Kings forward, Stelio Mattheos added one goal for the Canadians in the tournament while Kelowna Rockets blueliner Jonathan Smart picked up an assist. Jordy Bellerive (Lethbridge Hurricanes) and Josh Brook (Moose Jaw Warriors) were held pointless at the event.
