2019 #WHLPlayoffs Clinching Scenarios – March 16

 

Here are the 2019 Western Hockey League Playoff scenarios for Saturday, March 16.

The Edmonton Oil Kings will clinch first place in the Central Division:

If the Oil Kings win in any fashion against the Calgary Hitmen (2:00 p.m. MT/WHLLive.com).

OR

The Lethbridge Hurricanes lose in regulation to the Medicine Hat Tigers (7:30 p.m. MT/WHLLive.com).

OR 

If the Oil Kings earn a single point against the Tigers AND the Hurricanes earn a single point against the Tigers.

The Oil Kings have 40 wins and 88 points through 66 games. The Hurricanes have 39 wins and 88 points through 67 games.

In the first scenario, the Oil Kings would have 41 wins and 90 points. The Hurricanes could still tie them in points with a win later today but would lose the tiebreaker based upon wins.

In the second scenario, the Hurricanes would finished their regular season schedule with 39 wins and 88 points, tying the points of Edmonton, but again losing on the wins tiebreaker.

In the third scenario, the Oil Kings and Hurricanes would be tied at 89 points with Edmonton once again holding the tiebreaker based upon wins.

The Oil Kings last won the Central Division in the 2013-14 WHL Regular Season.

The Kamloops Blazers will clinch a playoff spot:

If the Blazers win in any fashion against the Prince George Cougars  (7:00 p.m. PT/WHLLive.com) AND the Kelowna Rockets lose in any fashion against the Vancouver Giants (7:05 p.m. PT/WHLLive.com).

The Kelowna Rockets will clinch a playoff spot:

If the Rockets win in any fashion against the Vancouver Giants (7:05 p.m. PT/WHLLive.com) AND the Kamloops Blazers lose in any fashion against the Prince George Cougars (7:00 p.m. PT/WHLLive.com).

A tie-breaker game will take place in Kamloops on Tuesday, March 19:

If the Blazers win in any fashion against the Cougars AND the Rockets win in any fashion against the Giants.

OR

If the Blazers earn a single point against the Cougars AND the Rockets earn a single point against the Giants.

OR

If the Blazers lose in regulation against the Cougars AND the Rockets lose in regulation against the Giants.

To date, 15 teams have secured their spot in the 2019 WHL Playoffs: Prince Albert Raiders, Everett Silvertips, Vancouver Giants, Portland Winterhawks, Saskatoon Blades, Spokane Chiefs, Edmonton Oil Kings, Victoria Royals, Tri-City Americans, Lethbridge Hurricanes, Calgary Hitmen, Moose Jaw Warriors, Medicine Hat Tigers,  Seattle Thunderbirds, and the Red Deer Rebels. The Raiders, Giants, and Silvertips have each clinched their respective divisions while the Raiders and Giants have also secured the top record in respective conferences. The Raiders have also clinched the top record in the WHL this season, earning them the 2018-19 Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy as regular season champions.
