ALBERTA GETS PAST MANITOBA
Calgary, AB — Alex Rotundo scored and set up another while Sam Steel picked up two assists as Team Alberta edged Team Manitoba 3-2 in round robin action at the 2013 Western Canada U-16 Challenge Cup on Thursday.
David Quenneville and Mason Shaw also counted for Alberta, which outshot Manitoba 36-19 in the contest, including by a 24-9 margin over the first two periods. Stuart Skinner made 17 saves to claim the win for Alberta.
Brett Howden and Dylan Thiessen got the goals for Team Manitoba, who went 0-for-2 on the power play in the setback. Ryan Kubic made 33 saves in a losing cause, picking up Player of the Game honors for Manitoba.
Alberta faces Saskatchewan while Manitoba goes up against BC in round robin action on Friday.
