ALBERTA DOUBLES UP BC BY A SCORE OF 6-3
Team Alberta and BC took to the ice for their first game of the 2015 Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup.
BC opened the scoring as forward Liam Kindree redirected a point shot from defenceman Ethan Cap to give BC an early 1-0 lead. Moose Jaw warriors prospect Luka Burzan scored on a partial short-handed breakaway to increase BC’s lead to 2-0.
However, Alberta got on the board with Josh Tarzwell scoring a goal off the rush to cut BC’s lead to 2-1. Despite being outshot 17-4, BC carried a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.
BC restored their two goal lead as Prince George Cougars prospect Jackson Leppard snapped the puck by Alberta netminders Carl Stankowski to make the score 3-1 for BC.
Team Alberta responded with two quick goals from Josh Prokop and one from forward Nicholas Bowman to tie the game at three goals apiece. The shots on goal were in favour of Alberta 28-13 through two periods.
Saskatoob Blades prospect Chase Wouters scored an unassisted goal in a scramble in front of the BC goal to give Alberta the 4-3 lead minutes into the final period. Nicholas Bowman later potted his second goal of the game after wiring a slap shot by BC goaltender Donovan Buskey. Prokop then finished off a tic-tac-toe play to increase Alberta’s lead to 6-3 and that was the final.
Alberta forward Spencer Moe and BC defenceman Ethan Cap were named the Players of the Game.
