TIGERS ACQUIRE RATHJEN FROM GIANTS

Medicine Hat, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers made their first splash into the trade wire today, acquiring 20 year old goaltender Jared Rathjen from the Vancouver Giants for a conditional 5th round Bantam draft pick in 2015.

The 6’1 180 pound native of Prince George, British Columbia has previously played for the Victoria Royals and last season with the Giants after coming over in a trade. Rathjen put up solid numbers last season as a 19 year old, posting a 2.98 GAA and 0.898 save percentage in 29 games. Rathjen also sported a respectable 13-8-4-1 record with one shutout. In his WHL career Rathjen has appeared in 74 games and sports a 3.81 GAA and 0.873 save percentage, going 20-30-7-1 over 3 seasons with Victoria and Vancouver.

“We are excited to add Jared to our team. Jared is a veteran WHL goaltender who has proven he has the commitment and ability to be successful at this level,” said Tigers’ head coach and general manager, Shaun Clouston.

When asked about his goaltending situation heading into next season, Clouston added, “With Marek’s (Langhamer) outstanding performance in the playoffs and his commitment to being a professional, we felt it imperative to add an experienced goaltender at this time.”

The Tigers welcome Jared and his family to the community of Medicine Hat.

Vancouver, BC — The Vancouver Giants have traded goaltender Jared Rathjen to the Medicine Hat Tigers in exchange for a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2015 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

Rathjen played 29 games with the Giants last season. He finished the regular season with a 13-8-4-1 record and posted a Goals Against Average of 2.98 and a .898 Save Percentage.
