WEDNESDAY’S WHL ROUND-UP
OIL KINGS & HITMEN CLINCH PLAYOFF SPOTS – Curtis Lazar scored his 33rd goal of the season as the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings outshot the Red Deer Rebels 54-15 en route to a 4-1 win in Western Hockey League action on Wednesday.
The win clinches the Hitmen a playoff spot.
Edgars Kulda, Brandon Ralph and Henrik Samuelsson also scored for the Oil Kings, who remain tied with the Calgary Hitmen on points for first place in the Central Division and Eastern Conference standings but take the No. 1 spot with more victories. Patrik Bartosak made 45 saves on 49 shots in a losing cause for the Rebels, who have lost three games in a row and fall into a tie with Prince Albert for eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

HITMEN 6, WARRIORS 4
Pavel Padakin and Jake Virtanen each scored two goals to pace the visiting Calgary Hitmen to a 6-4 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors. The Hitmen lock up a playoff spot with the victory – their eighth straight triumph.

Steven Hodges scored and set up two more as the visiting Victoria Royals scored four times in the first period in a 5-3 victory over the Brandon Wheat Kings on Wednesday. Logan Nelson scored his 20th goal of the season and added an assist for Victoria, who have won nine straight road games.

Morgan Klimchuk scored three goals and Dawson MacAuley made 23 saves to lead the visiting Regina Pats to a 4-2 win over the Saskatoon Blades. The Pats move four points clear for first place in the East Division.

Cain Franson tallied a goal and an assist and Jackson Houck chipped in three assists as the visiting Vancouver Giants downed the Lethbridge Hurricanes 5-2. The Giants have won two straight while the ‘Canes have dropped four in a row.

Tyrell Goulbourne and Cole Linaker each notched a goal and an assist as the Kelowna Rockets skated to a 5-1 victory over the visiting Tri-City Americans. The Rockets outshot the Ams 51-16 as they win their fourth straight game.
