ROCKETS TOP ROYALS – Brett Bulmer scored three goals to lead the Kelowna Rockets to a 6-5 win over the visiting Victoria Royals in Western Hockey League action on Saturday night.
Tanner Moar – with his first WHL marker – Carter Rigby and Colton Sissons also scored and Shane McColgan chipped in three assists for the Rockets (10-12-2-1), who have won four of their last five outings. Adam Brown made 19 saves to claim the victory.
Kevin Sundher and Robin Soudek each tallied a goal and an assist while Brandon Magee, Logan Nelson and Zach Habscheid also scored for the Royals (11-14-0-1), who suffer their fourth straight setback. Keith Hamilton made 23 saves in a losing cause.
COUGARS 5, CHIEFS 4
Linden Springer’s first WHL goal, 2:23 into the third period, was the winner as the visiting Prince George Cougars edged the Spokane Chiefs 5-4 on Saturday night.
Charles Inglis, Greg Fraser, Troy Bourke and Campbell Elynuik also scored for the Cougars (8-17-0-2), who win their second game in as many nights on the road. Drew Owsley made 26 saves to claim the victory.
Marek Kalus, Anthony Bardaro, Blake Gal and Dominik Uher scored for the Chiefs (11-7-1-2), who suffer their second straight setback and fall to 3-5-1-1 over their last 10 games. Luke Lee-Knight and Mac Engel combined for 12 saves in a losing effort.
AMERICANS 6, PATS 1
Patrick Holland tallied a goal and two assists to help the Tri-City Americans to a 6-1 victory over the visiting Regina Pats on Saturday night.
Adam Hughesman, Brendan Shinnimin and Jordan Messier each picked up a goal and an assist while Mason Wilgosh and Justin Feser also scored for the Americans (19-6-0-0), who claim their fourth win in a row and pad their U.S. Division lead to four points over Portland. Eric Comrie made 20 saves to earn his eighth win of the season.
Ricard Blidstrand scored the lone goal for the Pats (13-11-1-1), who trailed 3-0 after the first period and 5-1 after two periods of play en route to their sixth loss in seven games. Matt Hewitt and Adam Beukeboom combined for 23 saves in the setback.
BRONCOS 3, SILVERTIPS 1
Taylor Vause scored two goals as the visiting Swift Current Broncos skated to a 3-1 win over the Everett Silvertips on Saturday.
Graham Black also scored for the Broncos (11-13-1-2), who earn their first win on their U.S. Division tour but remain in fifth place in the East Division. Jon Groenheyde made 32 saves to post his ninth victory of the season.
Ryan Harrison scored his eighth goal of the season for the Silvertips (5-17-0-4), who see their losing skid hit four games. Kent Simpson made 20 saves in a losing cause.
BLAZERS 8, THUNDERBIRDS 2
Logan McVeigh notched a goal and two assists and Brady Gaudet picked up three assists as the Kamloops Blazers managed an 8-2 win over the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday.
Tim Bozon, Brendan Ranford, Cole Ully, Dylan Willick, Colin Smith, Ryan Hanes and Austin Madaisky also scored for the Blazers (16-7-1-0), who went 2-for-4 on the power play en route to their second win in a row. Cole Cheveldave made 17 saves in the win.
Luke Lockhart and Burke Gallimore scored for the Thunderbirds (10-12-0-1), who suffer their second loss in as many nights. Daniel Cotton turned in a 42-save effort in a losing cause.
TIGERS 4, REBELS 1
James Bettauer scored his 10th goal of the season to help lead the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers to a 4-1 win over the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday.
Boston Leier, Jayden Hart and Emerson Etem also scored for the Tigers (16-9-1-2), who went 2-for-11 on the power play en route to their second win in three games. Tyler Bunz made 29 saves to post the victory.
Chad Robinson – with his fourth of the season – scored the lone marker for the Rebels (14-7-0-3), who see their losing skid hit five games. Patrik Bartosak turned in a 32-save effort in the loss.
OIL KINGS 5, HURRICANES 2
Tyler Maxwell scored his first two goals as a member of the Edmonton Oil Kings as the Oil Kings skated to a 5-2 win over the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday.
Michael St. Croix tallied two goals and two assists while Dylan Wruck notched a goal and two helpers for the Oil Kings (15-8-1-2), who cruise to their third straight win and second win in three games versus the Hurricanes. Tristan Jarry made 25 saves in the win.
Nick Buonassisi – with a goal and an assist – and Cam Braes scored for the Hurricanes (6-20-0-1), who have been outscored 15-5 by the Oil Kings over their last two meetings. Damien Ketlo made 33 saves in the defeat.
GIANTS 4, BLADES 1
Cain Franson scored twice to lead the visiting Vancouver Giants to a 4-1 victory over the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday.
Jordan Martinook and Taylor Makin also scored for the Giants (16-9-1-1), who earn their second straight win to kick off an East Division road trip. Adam Morrison turned in a 27-save effort to post the victory versus his former team.
Brett Stovin scored the only goal for the Blades (18-8-0-1), who suffer their second loss in as many nights on home ice after having won 10 straight at home to start the season. Andrey Makarov made 39 saves in the setback.
HITMEN 8, RAIDERS 2
Brady Brassart scored twice and set up another while Spencer Humphries notched a goal and two assists to lead the visiting Calgary Hitmen to an 8-2 win over the Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday.
Brooks Macek, Trevor Cheek, Danny Gayle, Jaynen Rissling and Kenton Helgensen – with his first WHL marker – also scored for the Hitmen (14-10-1-1), who complete a perfect 4-0 East Division road trip while racking up 25 goals in the process. Chris Driedger made 25 saves in the win.
Kellan Tochkin and Tyler Vanscourt scored for the Raiders (6-20-1-1), who have been outscored 20-5 in three meetings versus Calgary this season. Eric Williams and Cole Holowenko combined for 25 saves in a losing effort.
WARRIORS 4, WHEAT KINGS 3
Eric Arnold scored his second goal of the game11:41 into the third period to lift the Moose Jaw Warriors to a 4-3 win over the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday.
Kenton Miller and Andrew Johnson also scored for the Warriors (16-8-2-0), who defeat the Wheat Kings for a second straight night and move into a tie for second place in the East Division. Luke Siemens made 27 saves in the win.
Jason Swyripa, Paul Ciarelli and Michael Ferland scored for the Wheat Kings (16-10-1-1), who drop their third straight decision and fall into a tie with the Warriors for second place in the East. Brandon Anderson made 20 saves in the loss.
