Blades to Recognize WHL Scholarship Recipients
Saskatoon, SK: The Saskatoon Blades this morning announced that prior to the Saturday November 5th Western Hockey League contest with the Medicine Hat Tigers the cub will recognize members of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies and 2005 University Cup Champion University of Alberta Golden Bears who have gone onto to take advantage of the Western Hockey League Scholarship opportunities that are made available to each player who competes in the WHL. Last season the Western Hockey League were pleased to provide 250 current and former players with scholarships in numerous educational institutions throughout Canada and the United States with the Saskatoon Blades providing 10 of those scholarships. League wide, scholarships for 2004-2005 totaled 1 million dollars.

rIn a pre-game ceremony; 16 members of the Huskies and 24 members of the Golden Bears will be honored and take part in a ceremonial puck drop prior to the contest. In addition former Blades and current Canada West players; Trent Adamus (U of S), Stephan Mann (U of S), Derek Endicott (U of S), Ryan Stempfle ( U of A), Richard Kelly (U of A), and Justin Wallin (U of A) will be on hand during the 1st intermission to sign autographs for Blades fans. Saskatoon Blades Governor and Western Hockey League Education Committee Chairman Jack Brodsky commented on the significance of Friday’s ceremony âWe are extremely happy to have a chance to honour these young men who have chosen to take advantage of the scholarship opportunities they earned through their time in the WHL. They are playing a very high quality of hockey in the CIS and getting their education at the same time. It is also important to note how the hockey community has come together in Saskatchewan. The CIS is an important component in the hockey and we are pleased to host their weekend series against the Golden Bears at Credit Union Centre.â?

rIn addition to the honoring of WHL graduates on Friday, the Saskatoon Blades are also please to announce a special ticket offer for all University Students. For the Saturday, November 5th game only all University of Saskatchewan students who possess a valid student card may purchase their ticket for only $8.00 (including service charges) as opposed to the regular walk-up price of $12.00 (including service charges). Tickets must be purchased at the Credit Union Centre Box only.
