GORDON NAMED WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Calgary – The Western Hockey League Player of the Week is forward Boyd Gordon of the Red Deer Rebels. Gordon earned player of the week honours by recording four goals and seven points in three road games including a powerplay and short-handed goal during the week of October 15th to October 20th.
On Wednesday, October 16th, Gordon recorded two goals and two assists in a 9-2 win against the Tigers in Medicine Hat. On Friday, October 17th, Gordon recorded an assist in a 5-2 victory against the Ice in Kootenay.
On Saturday, October 18th, Gordon scored two goals in a 3-2 win against the Hitmen in Calgary.
Gordon, a 19-year-old from Regina, Saskatchewan, was drafted in the 1st round, 17th overall, by the Washington Capitals in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Honourable mention goes to Eric Christensen of the Kamloops Blazers and Fredrik Sjostrom of the Calgary Hitmen.
