2003 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP GAME SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED
HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA – The 2003 IIHF World Hockey Junior Hockey Championship Game Schedule was officially announced on Wednesday in Halifax and Sydney, NS. The schedule was approved in May, 2002 at the IIHF General Congress in Sweden by all of the participating countries.
The 2003 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship runs from December 26-31, 2002 in Sydney, NS and December 26, 2002 through January 5th, 2003 in Halifax, NS. This will mark the sixth time that Canada has hosted the IIHF World Junior Championship: Montreal, QC (1978), Hamilton (1986), Saskatoon (1991), Red Deer (1995), Winnipeg (1999).
The schedule features the 10 top hockey nations in junior hockey, which divided into two groups based on results at the 2002 World Junior Championship.
Canada heads up Group B, based in Halifax, NS with, in order of their ranking, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Germany. Group A will be based in Sydney, NS and will feature defending gold medal champion Russia, Switzerland, USA, Slovakia and Belarus. After the preliminary round robin, all of the remaining games, including the medal rounds, will be played in Halifax.
The host team from Canada will open up against Sweden at 8:10 pm (Atlantic) on December 26, 2002 at the Halifax Metro Centre. All of Canada’s games will be broadcast live on Team Canada’s official broadcasters, TSN and RDS. Canada’s round robin schedule is as follows:
