WHL Approves Transfer in Ownership of Tri-City Franchise
Calgary, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that the Board of Governors have approved the transfer of full ownership in the Tri-City Americans franchise to Mr. Mark Wagstaff of Victoria, British Columbia.
The WHL approved the ownership transfer based on certain conditions, including a commitment from Mr. Wagstaff to operate the franchise in the Tri-City for a minimum of five years.
“Ensuring our WHL franchise continued to operate in Tri-City on a long term basis was our primary objective from the outset. We are confident Mr. Wagstaff will deliver the ownership stability we have been looking for ,” stated Ron Robison, Commissioner of the Western Hockey League.
Mr. Wagstaff recently met another key condition of the franchise sale by entering into a long term lease for the Tri-Cities Coliseum with the City of Kennewick, Washington.
A WHL franchise has been located in Tri-Cities since the 1988-1989 season.
