2025 WHL Graduates: Spokane Chiefs
Over the summer, the Western Hockey League will be celebrating the WHL Graduates from the 2024-25 season in a 22-part, team-by-team series.
Today, we continue with the graduating players from the Spokane Chiefs.
Brayden Crampton (D)
Hometown: Chilliwack, B.C.
WHL Career Stats: 247 GP – 23 G-128 A –151 PTS
WHL Draft: Listed (Spokane)
It started with Spokane. And, now, it ends with Spokane.
With the 2024-25 WHL Season fading in the rear view, veteran blueliner Brayden Crampton is ready to depart the WHL as a member of the graduating class of 2025.
The news comes after Crampton, a 21-year-old talent from Chilliwack, B.C., completed his fourth – and final – season in the Western League. While Crampton toured across all 22 WHL hubs in Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest, only one destination was truly home for the defenceman. Since signing his WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement in September 2021, Crampton has been exclusively with the Spokane Chiefs. He made his WHL debut with Spokane on October 8, 2021, and secured his first career point (an assist) against the Tri-City Americans on October 23, 2021. While a mainstay on the Chiefs’ blueline for four full seasons, Crampton’s most memorable campaign came during his 20-year-old season. With 10 goals, 61 assists, 71 points, and a +19 rating, the Chilliwack product recorded career-highs in countless scoring departments. His 71 regular season points placed him third in points among WHL defencemen and fourth in Chiefs scoring. The campaign also marked the first time in the defenceman’s WHL career where he concluded the regular season with a points-per-game average of over 1.00. Crampton concluded his WHL career with a trip to the 2025 WHL Championship Series, falling to the Eastern Conference’s Medicine Hat Tigers in Game Five.

Rasmus Ekstrom (F)
Hometown: Stockholm, Sweden
WHL Career Stats: 102 GP – 41 G-43 A –84 PTS
WHL Draft: 2023 – 2nd Round, 66th Overall (Spokane)
That’s a wrap, folks!
After a two-season stint with the Spokane Chiefs, Rasmus Ekstrom time in the Western Hockey League has come to an end. And, what a Swede career it was for the Stockholm, Sweden local. Ekstrom, originally joined the Chiefs roster following his second-round selection (66th overall) during the 2023 CHL Import Draft. At 19 years old, Ekstrom made an immediate impact for the American club, collecting his first point (an assist) in his Western League debut. Ekstrom made 37 regular season appearances during his rookie campaign with Spokane, collecting 15 goals, 14 assists, and 29 points. His 29-point performance led all Chiefs rookies during the 2023-24 campaign. Choosing to return for his 20-year-old season, Ekstrom stepped into a larger role both on and off the ice. In 65 games, the Swede hit the 55-point plateau (26 G-29 A) – including eight power-play goals and five game-winning goals. Off the ice, Ekstrom brought a veteran presence to the locker room, serving as one of the Club’s assistant captains. Ekstrom capped off his WHL career by an impressive 15 points (8 G-7 A) in 20 games during the 2025 WHL Playoffs. The veteran forward also connected for three points (2 G-1 A) in five games at the 2025 WHL Championship Series against Medicine Hat.

Shea Van Olm (F)
Hometown: Calgary, Alta.
WHL Career Stats: 261 GP – 89 G-103 A – 192 PTS
WHL Draft: 2019 – 6th Round, 128th Overall (Edmonton)
After broadcasting across WHL frequencies for five seasons, the S.V.O. Show is officially off the air.
Veteran personality, Shea Van Olm, has completed his WHL career and is joining teammates Brayden Crampton and Rasmus Ekstrom on the Spokane Chiefs’ graduating class of 2025. While Van Olm graduates the League as a member of the Chiefs, his introduction to junior hockey began elsewhere. Hailing from Calgary, Alta., Van Olm travelled up the QEII to join the Edmonton Oil Kings following his sixth-round selection during the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft. The Albertan spent parts of three seasons in the Kingdom, boasting 17 points (10 G-7 A) in 74 regular season appearances. However, the highlight of Van Olm’s time in Edmonton came during the 2022 WHL Playoffs, when the budding forward and the Oil Kings were crowned the 2022 WHL Champions. From there, Van Olm’s talents were requested by the Kamloops Blazers, who acquired the forward in November 2022. In 79 regular season appearances with Kamloops, the forward collected 48 points (17 G-31 A). However, Van Olm proved to be most useful to the Blazers during the 2023 post-season, as the forward helped Kamloops reach the Western Conference Championship Series. Van Olm was a frequent face at the 2023 Memorial Cup, hosted by the Blazers. After his two-season stint in the Okanagan, the six-foot-one forward found himself on the move once again. Acquired by the Spokane Chiefs in January 2024, Van Olm and the U.S. Division representative were a perfect match. In his final campaign, the 20-year-old talent boasted a career-high of 92 points in 66 games. His 49 goals led the entire WHL, while his 92 points placed him tied for ninth in League scoring. Van Olm ended his WHL career with another trip to the WHL Championship Series, this time falling to the Medicine Hat Tigers in a five-game series.
