Brandon Wheat Kings, CMHA announce partnership
The Brandon Wheat Kings and Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) are teaming up to raise awareness about the importance of mental health during an upcoming Western Hockey League game at Westoba Place.
The Wheat Kings game against the visiting Saskatoon Blades on Tuesday, February 5th will feature:
-A CMHA-run kiosk so fans can learn more about mental health
-Videos featuring Wheat King players talking about the importance of mental health
-Public address announcements
The awareness campaign is part of the ongoing commitment by the Wheat Kings and CMHA to implement Talk Today, a program that provides mental health support to players and raises awareness about mental health and suicide prevention throughout communities across the Canadian Hockey League.
A key piece of the Talk Today program has been to educate players about mental health and suicide prevention. Every team has received mental health training specific to suicide prevention. Each team is also now linked to a CMHA Mental Health coach, who provides support and mental health resources to individuals in need.
CMHA is pleased to be partnering with the Western Hockey League and the Brandon Wheat Kings once again this year. Talk Today is one of the most comprehensive mental health programs for amateur sports in Canada. Our program is geared at creating a safer and more supportive environment for athletes, and their supporters. “By building relationships we aim to help athletes connect with mental health supports and resources they need to thrive” said Marion Cooper, Executive Director of CMHA Manitoba
“By hosting this event tonight the Wheat Kings are helping to eliminate the stigma and discrimination associated with mental health issues,” says Brandon General Manager Grant Armstrong. “By doing this tonight, we’re encouraging discussion within the community about mental health.”

2 for Tuesday means that western Manitoba hockey fans will receive a “free” ticket to this game, with the purchase of another at regular price. As well, the Keystone Centre will be offering a number of concession specials that night.
