2006 CHL Import Draft Complete
The 2006 CHL Import Draft has been completed. The Expansion Chilliwack Bruins, who will begin play in September, were the first Western Hockey League club to make a selection in today’s draft. With the second overall pick the Bruins selected Oscar Moller, a 17-year-old forward from Sweden. He was a star for Sweden at the Mac’s Midget tournament in Calgary after Christmas, recording nine points (6g-3a) in 6 games. He played for DjurgÃ¥rdens IF in the Swedish U-20 junior league this year, notching 13 points (8g-5a) and 41 PIM in 25 games.

rThe Spokane Chiefs made the next WHL selection with the number 5 pick. The Chiefs chose Czech forward Ondrej Roman. He performed well as a 16-year-old in the Czech U-20 Junior League with HC Vitkovice – 17 goals and 27 assists for 44 points and 42 PIM in 46 games.

rThe Red Deer Rebels used the eighth pick in the Import Draft to grab Kirill Starkov. Another Swedish forward. Starkov was a 6th round pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2005 draft.

rThe Prince Albert Raiders held the 11th pick in the draft, they used it to choose Slovakian Lukas Zeliska. Zeliska is an 18-year-old centerman and was a fifth round selection of the New York Rangers in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

rThe Swift Current Broncos held the 14th pick in today’s draft. They grabbed Czech native David Stieler, an 18 year old Czech center who went undrafted on in Vancouver on Saturday. He played last year for HC Kladno in the Czech U-20 league. In 47 games he had 16 goals and 20 assists for 36 points.

rAfter acquiring the 17th pick in a trade with the Lethbridge Hurricanes, the Calgary Hitmen selected 18 year old Swedish winger Robin Figren. Figren is a third round pick of the New York Islanders.

rWith the 20th overall pick in the Import Draft, the Tri City Americans used the first of their two first rounders on Slovakian defenceman Juraj Valach. A 17-year-old who spent last year with HKM Zvolen in the Slovakian U-20 league. Appearing in 42 games, recording 14pts.
