WHERE ARE THEY NOW? – Matt Dorsey
Matt Dorsey is one of very few Wenatchee natives to get an opportunity to wear the Wild uniform, but he consistently proved he belonged at the BCHL level when he got his chance. After playing youth hockey locally, he ventured off looking to accelerate his development.
“First time I moved away to play was when I was 14 to play in Arizona”, he recalls. “It was exciting but at such a young age I also missed home early on. However, once I found my stride there my teammates became my family as well and the transition became easy.”
In the 2016-17 season he joined the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL. “I had an injury when I was in Calgary and missed most of season. I was recovering at home and started hanging out with some of the guys I knew on that team (in Wenatchee) and decided to finish the year there to play with them.” He added, “Plus it was always a dream of mine to play for my hometown.”
He skated a few games with Tri City in the WHL the following year, but came back to Wenatchee where he was a key part of the Fred Page Cup and Doyle Cup Championships. He returned for two more seasons with the Wild before moving on to college.
He’s entering his junior year at the University of Windsor located in Windsor, ONT and majoring in kinesiology. He holds his time in Wenatchee close to his heart. “My best memories there would be winning the championship and the relationships I built with teammates.”
He’s been spending the summer of 2022 training in LA in preparation for the coming season.
