ICE crack for the first time
The Winnipeg ICE season opening five game winning streak came to an end Saturday night in Moose Jaw as the Warriors earned a 4-1 decision.
17 year old Brayden Yager scored twice for Moose Jaw (4-2) including what proved to be the game winning goal at 14:51 of the second period.
Atley Calvert and Denton Mateychuk also scored for the Warriors who had a 1-0 lead after the first period and a 2-1 advantage through 40 minutes.
Matthew Savoie’s first goal of the season was the lone goal for the ICE (5-1). Owen Pederson and Ben Zloty had the assists. For Zloty, it was his 100th career WHL assist.
The McDonalds shot clock ended up even at 27. Jackson Unger earned the victory in goal while Dawson Cowan suffered the loss.
Both teams went 0/1 on the power play.
The ICE continue their road trip Wednesday in Lethbridge (7:30 on CFRW 1290 AM).
