A proud second-year member of the Western Hockey League, the Wenatchee Wild are continuing a celebrated WHL legacy that dates back to Edmonton, Alberta in 1996, continuing in Cranbrook, British Columbia and Winnipeg, Manitoba. These are the ICE alumni, who are now also members of the #WildFamily, making news in American pro hockey this week:
NHL
SAM REINHART, 2010-15 (15 GP, 11-12-23) – Has points in seven straight games – and 13 of his 15 total appearances – for the Florida Panthers. His successful wraparound shot last Thursday was his only chance on the net 3:33 into a 6-2 win over the Nashville Predators, and he tacked on an assist Saturday in a 4-3 shootout win over the Philadelphia Flyers.
PEYTON KREBS, 2016-21 (15 GP, 2-3-5) – Got back into the scoring column for the Buffalo Sabres with points in two games this past week, starting with a second-period assist Thursday in a 6-1 rout of the New York Rangers. His second-period goal Monday put Buffalo ahead, but the lead was short-lived in a 7-5 loss to the Montreal Canadiens.
ZACH BENSON, 2020-23 (10 GP, 2-1-3) – Charged onto the scoresheet with his first points of the year for the Buffalo Sabres, scoring back-to-back goals Thursday in a 6-1 win over the New York Rangers and in a 3-2 shootout win Saturday against the Calgary Flames. His goal Saturday came just 71 seconds into the contest.
ZACK OSTAPCHUK, 2022-23 (3 GP, 0-1-1) – Notched his first NHL point in his 2024-25 debut last Tuesday for the Ottawa Senators, logging nearly 15 minutes of ice time and an assist on Noah Gregor’s game-winning goal in an 8-1 rout of the St. Louis Blues.
AHL
CHASE WHEATCROFT, 2021-22 (10 GP, 3-7-10) – Had an assist in the Texas Stars’ 5-2 win Saturday over the Manitoba Moose.
CALE FLEURY, 2014-18 (7 GP, 3-3-6) – Saw a four-game AHL point streak come to an end, but not before picking up points for the Coachella Valley Firebirds Wednesday in a 3-2 win over the Colorado Eagles and in Friday’s 4-3 win at the Ontario Reign.
MATTHEW SAVOIE, 2019-24 (8 GP, 2-3-5) – Notched a first-period goal last Tuesday in the Bakersfield Condors’ 2-1 win at the Calgary Wranglers, before cranking out a goal and an assist Sunday in a 4-2 loss to the Abbotsford Canucks.
LUKE PHILP, 2015-17 (7 GP, 1-3-4) – Picked up an assist Tuesday morning in the Hershey Bears’ 5-4 win at the Bridgeport Islanders.
DAWSON BARTEAUX, 2019-20 (10 GP, 0-4-4) – Tallied two first-period assists for the Manitoba Moose in identical 5-2 losses to the Texas Stars on Saturday and Sunday.
ECHL
BRILEY WOOD, 2022-24 (5 GP, 1-3-4) – Picked up another assist Sunday in the Utah Grizzlies’ 6-2 loss to the Tahoe Knight Monsters.
NOLAN ORZECK, 2017-22 (5 GP, 0-3-3) – Had two assists Saturday for the Allen Americans in a 6-4 win over the Utah Grizzlies.
BRETT DAVIS, 2016-19 (8 GP, 1-2-3) – Only played one game last week, but made it count, picking up an assist Wednesday in a 3-2 Rapid City Rush loss to the Kansas City Mavericks.
CAM HAUSINGER, 2017-19 (8 GP, 1-2-3) – Marched onto the scoresheet for the first time this season, tallying a game-tying assist in the first period of Saturday’s 4-2 loss at the Reading Royals before banking a power play goal and an assist the following day in a 3-0 shutout victory.
GRAHAM SWARD, 2022-24 (10 GP, 0-3-3) – Set up the Norfolk Admirals’ game-winning goal Wednesday with the primary assist in a 6-5 overtime win at the Reading Royals.
Also on Wenatchee’s alumni list are the standouts from its Junior A era (2008-2023) – these players laid the foundation for the WHL’s future success in the Wenatchee Valley. These are Wenatchee’s Junior A alumni who are making news in American pro hockey this week:
SAM MORTON, 2016-18/2019-20 (14 GP, 2-8-10) – Notched a third-period assist last Tuesday in the Calgary Wranglers’ 2-1 loss to the Bakersfield Condors, but broke loose for a goal and an assist Sunday in Calgary’s 4-0 shutout of the Henderson Silver Knights.
DEVIN COOLEY, 2016-17 (8-2-0, 1.46) – Was named the AHL’s Player of the Week after making four appearances for the Calgary Wranglers, including two shutouts, over the past week. Cooley played back-to-back nights at home against the Bakersfield Condors, making 31 saves Tuesday in a 2-1 loss before pitching a 22-save shutout the following night in a 4-0 win. (Note: both games were refereed by former Wild blueliner Chris Rumble, who played in Wenatchee from 2009-11). He would earn a second shutout Sunday with 26 saves in a 4-0 defeat of the Henderson Silver Knights.
KYLE MAYHEW, 2016-17 (8 GP, 3-10-13) – Has points in all eight games this season for the Fort Wayne Komets, with a pair of assists Friday in a 5-1 win at the Toledo Walleye. He added another helper the following night on a go-ahead goal in a 3-2 home win against the Kalamazoo Wings.
JACQUES BOUQUOT, 2018-19 (12 GP, 1-6-7) – Earned a third-period assist for the Reading Royals in their 4-2 win Saturday over the Indy Fuel.
BRENDAN HARRIS, 2013-17 (5 GP, 3-3-6) – Finished Saturday’s 5-3 Jacksonville IceMen win over the South Carolina Stingrays with a goal and an assist, starting his night with a helper on Ivan Chukarov’s goal before tallying an empty-net marker of his own with five seconds remaining.
MARKO REIFENBERGER, 2018-19 (9 GP, 1-4-5) – Picked up assists in a pair of Norfolk Admirals road games, starting with a first-period apple in Friday’s 4-3 overtime loss at the Adirondack Thunder. His first-period assist helped end an active first period Sunday in a 4-3 overtime loss at the Worcester Railers.
BRYAN YOON, 2015-16 (7 GP, 2-3-5) – Put the Utah Grizzlies ahead with a goal in the first period of Saturday’s 6-4 win over the Tahoe Knight Monsters.
TROY LOGGINS, 2013-14 (7 GP, 3-1-4) – Buried a second-period goal to touch off a three-goal comeback for the Tahoe Knight Monsters in a 6-4 loss at the Utah Grizzlies Saturday.
CHARLIE COMBS, 2015-17 (6 GP, 2-1-3) – Had an assist Saturday in the South Carolina Stingrays’ 5-3 loss to the Jacksonville IceMen.
STANISLAV DEMIN, 2016-18 (6 GP, 0-2-2) – Picked up a first-period assist Friday in the Idaho Steelheads’ 6-3 win over the Savannah Ghost Pirates.
P.J. FLETCHER, 2018-19 (11 GP, 0-2-2) – Earned an assist on the game-winning goal last Wednesday in the Atlanta Gladiators’ 2-1 win against the Orlando Solar Bears.
SETH EISELE, 2017-18 (3-0-1, 1.50) – Signed an American Hockey League contract with the Hershey Bears thanks to an outstanding start to the ECHL season with the South Carolina Stingrays – his Friday outing saw South Carolina prevail 5-2 against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, with Eisele making 25 saves.
MICHAEL BULLION, 2014-15 (3-1-0, 2.70) – Made 25 saves Saturday to help the Worcester Railers to a 5-1 thrashing of the Maine Mariners.
