FEHR SCORES FOR HUNGER
Winnipeg, Manitoba Eric Fehr of the Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings, along with Peak of the Market, have announced that a record 4,200 pounds of fresh vegetables will be donated to Brandon’s Food Banks as part of the hockey club’s Score Food for Hunger campaign.r

Under terms of this year’s program, Peak of the Market donates fifty pounds of fresh vegetables to Helping Hands and Samaritan House each time Fehr scores a goal or collects an assist. r

This is the third year for the program, but the first year that the Washington Capitals’ first round draft choice has been actively involved.r

In 71 games with the Wheat Kings this season, the 18-year old Winkler product collected 84 points including fifty goals, becoming the first Brandon player in eight seasons to reach the 50-goal plateau. The last player to do so was Mike Leclerc of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, who fired 58 goals during the ’95-96 campaign.r

Not only did Fehr lead Brandon in scoring, he finished eighth in the league scoring parade. His fifty goals were second best in the league, his 21 powerplay goals were third and his five shorthanded goals were also good for third place in the WHL this year.r

On the ice, the Wheat Kings return home to the friendly confines of the Keystone Centre on Tuesday as their best of seven WHL Eastern Conference quarterfinal series shifts to Brandon for games three and four this week. The Wheat Kings and Prince Albert Raiders are currently tied at one game a piece after the two teams split the first two games at the Communiplex.r

After winning the opener 3-2 in overtime on Thursday, the Wheat Kings were defeated 5-1 in game two on Friday night.r
