TIGERS DROP 3-1 TO PATS
Regina Pats’ netminder Ryan Kubic turns aside a career high 47 shots to stop the Medicine Hat Tigers in their tracks and help the Pats win 3-1 Friday night at the Brandt Centre.
The Tigers moved the puck well and outshot the Pats 18-8 in the opening period of the game. Midway through the period, Pats’ blue liner Josh Mahura scored his 13th goal of the season sending the home team to the dressing room with the 1-0 lead.
In the second frame, Tabbies Captain Mark Rassell was finally able to solve Kubic and beat him on a redirection of Kristians Rubins’ shot. Rubins now has 8 points in the Tigers’ last 7 games. Hamblin also picked up an assist on Rassell’s 35th goal of the season.
Early into the final period, Cameron Hebig scored his first goal in a Pats uniform to break the deadlock.
The Orange and Black continued to put on offensive pressure but could not find a way to beat Kubic.
Tigers goaltender Jordan Hollett was pulled to give the Tabbies an extra attacker. Unfortunately, Sam Steel was able to get the puck and guide it to the back of an empty net with 6 seconds left in the game. The game ended 3-1 in favour of the Pats.
Hollett stopped 28 of the Pats 30 shots.
The Tigers are now 1-1 on their Eastern Conference road trip and will face off against the Brandon Wheat Kings tomorrow night at the Westman Place.
