Tips Finish Preseason with 2-1 Win Over Giants
Josh Winquist and Alex Theriau scored to lead the Everett Silvertips pas the Vancouver Giants 2-1 in a WHL preseason game Saturday night at the Ladner Leisure Center. With the victory, the Silvertips finished the pre-season with a 4-3 record.
Winquist opened the scoring with a power play goal at 9:10 of the first period, with assists going to Kellan Tochkin and Tyler Maxwell. It was Winquist’s second goal in two games after making his preseason debut and scoring in the first period of Friday’s 3-2 win over Seattle.
Theriau made it a 2-0 game at 6:46 of the second while on a 5-on-3 power play, with assists going to Maxwell and Josh Birkholz.
Tyler Hart scored for Vancouver to make it a 2-1 game with just under six minutes to play in the third period. The Giants had an opportunity to tie the game up with 10 seconds left, but James Henry’s penalty shot was stopped by Andy Desautels to preserve the win.
Everett’s goaltending duties were split by Luke Siemens, who stopped all 20 shots through two periods, and Desautels, who stopped eight of nine shots in the third.
The Silvertips open up the 2010-11 season at home on Friday night against the Seattle Thunderbirds, which begins an eight-game homestand. For tickets, please call (425) 252-5100.
