Ryan Sherwood Named New Silvertips Equipment Manager
EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), two-time Western Conference champions and eight-time U.S. Division champions of the Western Hockey League, announced the appointment of Ryan Sherwood to the position of equipment manager. Sherwood succeeds James Stucky, who previously served the Silvertips for 18 years in the same position and accepted an offer from the Seattle Kraken of the National Hockey League for the role of assistant equipment manager.
Sherwood earned a promotion from his previous role as game day equipment assistant, where he served the Silvertips for the previous five seasons.
“The Silvertips are proud to introduce Ryan Sherwood with a well-deserved promotion as our new equipment manager,” said Silvertips general manager and head coach Dennis Williams. “He’s an individual who has worked extremely hard for this opportunity, and we’re very familiar with his terrific assistance over the last five seasons. Ryan is very driven to continue working with the standard of excellence we pursue, and we look forward to his contributions.”
“I’m extremely excited and grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to get started,” said Sherwood. “It’s an honor to wear the bear and be a part of this team, this organization and this town. ‘Stucks’ gave me a chance five seasons ago to work alongside him during home games and taught me not just about equipment, but also the lifelong friendships you make with players, fans, and the community throughout the years. Nobody can fill his shoes but I can promise, his legacy will always be alive and felt in this building. I’m ready to carry the torch and help this team continue in its success.”
Honored at the end of last season as recipient of the Silvertips Jim Leo Distinguished Service Award, he was recognized by the Canadian Hockey League during National Volunteer Week and serves the Silvertips as the primary contact for managing extensive equipment needs of every Silvertips player on a day-to-day basis, along with dressing room maintenance and supporting the Silvertips coaching and athletic training staff.
Sherwood’s background includes eight years of coaching in hockey and baseball, and two years as a pitcher with the Taft College (CA) and Everett Community College baseball programs. His hockey experience extends to first skating at age five, growing up in the Seattle Junior Hockey and Sno-King youth programs as a defenseman.
He grew up in Mukilteo and also carries 16 previous years working in the restaurant industry, including six years in Seattle’s iconic Pike Place Market.
Sherwood transitions into this season as a current resident of Lynnwood with wife, Beth and infant son, Boston.
