Kamloops Blazes Trail to Victory
The Kamloops Blazers are leaving Everett on a four game winning streak after defeating the Everett Silvertips by a score of 4-0 at the Everett Events Center. The Silvertips are now 20-13-6-2 while the Blazers rise to 17-21-2-2. Everett is second in the US Division while Kamloops remains at the bottom of the BC Division.
Roman Tesliuk scored first late in the first period with a shot that hit the upper right corner of the net. About four minutes later Ray Macias would extend the Blazers’ lead to 2-0. After a goal made by Kris Hogg at 3:17 in the second, the Silvertips took out netminder Mike Wall and put in rookie Leland Irving. To that point Mike Wall had made 10 saves on 13 shots. The Blazers would not score on an Everett goalie for the rest of the game. At 8:04 in the third period Kalvin Sagert cleared a rebound off of Devan Dubnyk and sent the puck the length of the ice into an empty net making it 4-0. Adding assists for Kamloops were Aaron Richards with two and Moises Gutierrez, Ray Macias and Roman Tesliuk with one a piece.
In goal for the Blazers, Devan Dubnyk made saves on all 35 shots the Silvertips sent at him. Everett goaltender Leland Irving played outstanding and stood strong for his team. After being put in he made saves on all 14 shots the opposing team fired. Mike Wall’s record now falls to 15-12-5 while Devan Dubnyk’s rises to 14-21-2.
In other news Torrie Wheat was honored tonight by Wagner Jeweler’s and Seiko for being the player with the most Three Stars of the Game points for the month of December. Also, the Everett Silvertips reached their goal of $10,000 to donate to cancer research at the Providence Medical Center. Silvertip Mark Kress will now cut his hair at a time and place that has yet to be determined.
On Tuesday, January 11th the Silvertips are home again at the Everett Events Center where they will face off against the Kootenay Ice. Game time is set for 7:05pm.
