Riley Sutter to Play in CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game
EVERETT, Wash. – Everett Silvertips forward Riley Sutter has been named among 40 top National Hockey League Draft eligible players from the Canadian Hockey League to participate in the 2018 Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game at Sleeman Centre, home of the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League, on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018.
Sutter, 18, was given a “B” listing among the NHL Central Scouting rankings for the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, considered possible second or third round choices in the upcoming draft. Through 14 seasons, a total of 19 players through the Silvertips program have been selected in the NHL Entry Draft. A total of 17 Silvertips have advanced to play in the NHL.
The native of Calgary is fifth on the Silvertips with ten goals in 33 games, additionally racking up 21 points, four power play goals, one game winning goal, and an even plus/minus. Last season, Sutter hit career highs in goals (20), assists (19) and points (39) in 67 games, helping guide the Silvertips to their fifth U.S. Division title in franchise history.
The 6-foot-2, 201-pound forward has 64 points and a +4 rating in 131 career Silvertips games.
The Calgary, Alberta native has three cousins currently skating in the NHL or American Hockey League: Brandon Sutter (Vancouver Canucks), Brett Sutter (Ontario Reign), and Brody Sutter (Manitoba Moose). Riley’s father, Ron, skated for 19 seasons as a forward and two-year captain in the NHL with Philadelphia, St. Louis, Quebec, Boston, Phoenix, San Jose, Calgary and the New York Islanders. His uncle, Darryl, led the Los Angeles Kings to two Stanley Cup championships (2011-12, 2013-14) as head coach.

In 22 years, a total of 307 CHL players from this event have been chosen by NHL clubs in the first round of the NHL Draft representing close to 47% of all players selected. Since the event was first introduced in 1996 the game has featured 14 players selected with the first overall pick in the NHL Draft including Hischier, Connor McDavid, Aaron Ekblad, Nathan MacKinnon, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Taylor Hall, John Tavares, Steven Stamkos, Patrick Kane, Marc-Andre Fleury, Rick Nash, Vincent Lecavalier, Joe Thornton, and Chris Phillips.
Team Cherry and Team Orr will be assigned at a later date with coaching staffs along with captains and alternates still to be announced. The game will be broadcast live on Sportsnet and TVA Sports.
