GAME RECAP: Silvertips earn eighth straight win over East Division-leading Blades
EVERETT, Wash. — Make it 14 years worth of wins over the Saskatoon Blades.
The Everett Silvertips extended their season winning streak to eight games and their matchup winning streak to 12 straight over the Saskatoon Blades Friday night, earning a 3-2 win at Angel of the Winds Arena.
Everett erupted for three goals in the first period, with Clarke Schaefer opening up the scoring at 12:28 with assists to Hunter Rudolph and Lukas Kaplan. Tarin Smith followed up with a wrist shot off a faceoff just 41 seconds later to give the Tips a multi-goal advantage.
A Shea Busch powerplay goal 17:42 into the frame sent the Tips down the tunnel up 3-0 after 20 minutes. The Silvertips outshot Saskatoon 17-4 in the period.
Hunter Laing single-handedly brought the Blades within one with a pair of goals in the second period, coming on the powerplay 4:41 into the frame and at even-strength at 17:46.
Everett tightened up defensively in the final frame, however, outshooting the Blades 12-4 and closing out a 3-2 win. Raiden LeGall finished 14 for 16 in net for the win, while Evan Gardner ended 36 for 39 for the Blades.
Everett has won 12 straight meetings with the Blades dating back to Oct. 11, 2011.
