“Get To Know” Series – Introducing Cole Reschny
Cole Reschny became the highest pick in Victoria Royals history when he was selected by the club with the third overall pick in the first round of the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft this past May.
The 15-year-old is coming off an outstanding year for the Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) U15 Prep team, being named the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) U15 Prep division’s Most Valuable Player after finishing the regular season with a league-leading 40 goals while adding 52 assists to finish second in the league with 92 total points.
Reschny is on the Island for the 2022 Victoria Royals Rookie Camp presented by Coast Hotel Victoria & Marina by APA. Our content team caught up with him for our “Get to Know” Series where we profile prospects and players.
When did you first start playing hockey?
I started around four years old. I watched my older brother do it first and decided to try it out. I obviously liked it.
What number do you wear, and does it have any meaning to you?
I usually wear number 7. It has always been in the family. My older brother wears it too. We all usually wear it and it just stuck.
Who is your favourite athlete and why?
Michael Jordan because of his mentality, the way he worked, and his thought process.
Who is your hero and your biggest inspiration? Explain why
I really look up to my older brother. He works so hard. He’s always trying his best and doing all he can. He’s a big role model of mine.
What is your favourite thing about Victoria so far?
I think it’s the rink. It’s a beautiful place. I think it’s one of the top arenas in the league.
What is your favourite meal?
I like a steak dinner.
What is your go to pump up song right now?
I’m not too sure. There’s quite a few. It’s Time by Imagine Dragons is a good one.
Name three places you want to visit outside of Canada
I’ve never been to Seattle. It seems like a cool place to play hockey. I’ve been to Chicago and it’s a beautiful place. I went to Italy for a hockey tournament. It was pretty cool to do that.
What is your favourite movie of all-time?
I think Grown Ups is a good one.

Dogs
Do you have any pets? If yes, what?
We do have a cat.
Do you have any hidden talents?
Not really.
What motivates you to work hard?
I think just how much work and effort my parents have put in to help me be here. As well as all the other people who have helped me to be here. I want to do it not only for myself but for them too.
Have you ever had a nickname? What is it?
All the guys usually call me Rech.
What do you enjoy doing outside of hockey?
I like to hang out with my friends, help my dad on the farm, go for a few rounds of golf, and just chill out.
What is your message to Royals fans?
I’m excited to be here and hopefully play here in this arena someday.
