Royals secure overtime win against Tri-City
Kennewick, WA. — The Victoria Royals opened a brief US road trip tonight, taking on the Tri-City Americans at the Toyota Center in Kennewick. In their final meeting of the season, overtime was needed to settle a close battle between the Royals and Americans, but the Royals came out on top tonight with a final score of 4-3.
After over 16 minutes of scoreless play through the opening frame, the Royals were first on the board with a goal from Max Silver, assisted by Landon Young at 16:13. The teams were tight through the first period, but the Royals maintained their one-goal lead headed into the first intermission.
The Americans tied the game with a goal from Cruz Pavao early in the second period, and took the lead with a goal from Gavin Garland at 10:55. Pavao struck again late in the frame to make it a two-goal game, and the Royals trailed 3-1 after 40 minutes of play.
Roan Woodward tucked his 30th goal of the season less than a minute into the third period, assisted by Reggie Newman and Hayden Moore, to bring the game back within one. Immediately after Woodward’s goal, Ludovic Perreault notched the equalizer goal, assisted by Miles Cooper and Timofei Runtso. Neither team could break through to take the game in regulation, forcing an overtime frame.
Ludovic Perreault notched the game-winning goal in the final seconds of overtime, assisted by Miles Cooper, bringing the final score to 4-3.
